Once I went with some friends to visit a historic town close to my city with is part of the St. James Way. We visited its churches and monuments and were walking on the main street when we passed in front of a sort of old palace with its main door slightly open. My friends said: let’s go in to see what it’s this. I was not convinced because when I poked my head I suspected that it was a private house.
I was trying to convince my friends to go out , but they were already inside looking at the furniture, the paintings and the decorations, talking loudly while I waited at the door not daring to enter. At the other side of the entrance hall there was another door and some stairs.
Suddenly, a big man armed opened the door and asked abruptly: Who’s there? He immediately looked at me, and told me: What are YOU doing here? I stood there wishing the ground would swallow me up. He was a police officer I knew too well. The bodyguard of the editor of my newspaper.
We had entered uninvited to the country house of my boss. He was with his family in the garden enjoying a sunny Sunday morning. My boss had had a terrorist attempt that almost killed him and he was under constant menaces, this is why he had police protection 24/7.
– Don’t worry, boss, it’s Olga with some friends, said the bodyguard.
They invited us to the garden to greet them. My friends enjoyed the visit, but I was too embarrassed.
