Saved by the bell

The day had been exhausting at work. Monica had to do extra hours, and it was late when she finally went out of the building to go home.

When she tried to start her old car, Monica found that the engine was dead. She had to call the insurance company for assistance. A man with a truck came, checked the machine, and towed the vehicle to the garage.

Monica realized that she didn’t have enough money for a taxi to go home and run to the bus stop hoping to catch the last ride of the night. It was cold and foggy. She could barely see the cars’ lights approaching and was looking intensely, trying to recognize the bus.

Distracted as she was, Monica pondered her bad luck, didn’t realize that she wasn’t already alone. A man appeared from nowhere and pulled her against the pole of the bus stop violently to assault her. She instinctively grabbed her large and heavy bag and hit the man in his head.

Just at that moment, the bus arrived. The driver saw she was in trouble and yelled to the man: Leave her alone! Monica stepped aside leaving her attacker behind and got on the bus. The driver closed the door immediately and hit the gas.
– Thanks, she said
– Saved by the bell!, answered the driver smiling.

Good grief, Olga. I’m sorry you suffered such a horrendous thing. I so wish people would just love and care for each other no matter the relation between them. Earth would be a much better place if we could do that – at least show respect.

You’re right. I can’t agree more. I don’t understand violence. I have been lucky and I have found tons of people like the bus driver, friendly and ready to help.
