The kill of the daily prompt

Long time ago there was an archaic world without a common space for WordPress bloggers to communicate to each other. It was before the start of the daily prompt and the weekly photo challenge.

Many bloggers lived lost in the jungle of the blogosphere feeling pretty lonely and disoriented. Then arrived the great idea of the daily prompts and the weekly challenges and a community of bloggers was born.

They began to communicate and show their posts and photos to everybody. Many friendships were established online. Young people joined the club. Every day the participants made its contributions to the daily prompts, they would check how were doing their friends and other bloggers writing about the same topic, interchange comments and so on.

Then , one day, without giving them time to react, by decree, giving no reasons, the organizers of all this, decided to bring them back to the archaic time by canceling all the prompts and challenges. Now we all are back again at the jungle of the blogosphere without any help. So, farewell, WordPress “happy editors”! We will find our ways to survive without you.

I’m sorry to say, you disappointed me greatly.

The will

You’re sitting at a café when a stranger approaches you. This person asks what your name is, and, for some reason, you reply. The stranger nods, “I’ve been looking for you.” What happens next?

– I’ve been looking for you.

– What for?

– You’ve been mentioned in a will as a beneficiary and I’m the lawyer for the estate

– You’re kidding me.

– No. I’m serious. It was very difficult to find you.

– By the way, how did you know I was here? This is not my house or my office. I’m not a regular customer here.

– I asked around. Can I sit down?

– I’m not convinced yet but you can keep talking if you want.

– Thanks. As I was telling you I’m the lawyer for the estate of the late Orfeo Strange who died a week ago without heirs.

– I know no Victor Strange. why would he mention me in his will?

– He was one of your readers. He chose several bloggers he liked as his heirs.

– You have my attention now. How he died? Was he rich?

– He was very sick and yes, he was pretty rich.

– And you’re not making up this story as a practical joke?

– I can show you a copy of the will if you want.

– That would be nice.

– Here he is. As you can see he names ten bloggers as beneficiaries and gives them different parts of his assets. You’re the last one. Here. See? To you goes “the most beloved possession” he had.

– This is unbelievable! How much value it has?

– I don’t know exactly its value. It’s his cat Boo. Here he is. Congratulations!

Greetings, Stranger.

When was the last time you did something completely new and out of your element? How was it? Will you do it again?

May, 2013. I started this blog and another one about my memories. I started to write and publish something personal, not strictly professional, for the first time. I entered a complete new world. Sharing little stories about my life, opinions, points of view about ordinary events, even trying some fiction. These have been challenging and exciting activities for me. I thought I would never dare to do it, but here I am nine months later with readers and followers, still alive. I found a nice community. I’m enjoying it. I’ve known great bloggers. I’m learning a lot from them. I think I made a good decision back in May.

Daily Prompt: Beyond the Pale.

Help me learn

What makes a blog great? What makes you follow a blog or “Like” a post?

Honesty. Knowledge. Common sense. Good writing. Sense of Humor. The artistic point of view in photo blogs.

I love blogs that help me learn something about life, about other people’s culture and experiences. I enjoy reading so if they give me a good reading, I like it and follow. I usually don’t look at the number of followers, just decide if I like it or not. I think blogging is not a popularity contest. I love the interaction among bloggers. I like comments.

I think great blogs are blogs by people writing for the pleasure of writing or simply for the shake of sharing an experience.

It’s impossible to follow all the great blogs out there so I pick  what I find in places like this daily prompt space and searching among the ones about topics of my interest.
